Premier's Women's Directory

The Premier's Women's Directory is an online database of women wanting to serve on boards and committees. It includes the details of women with a diverse range of backgrounds, experience and interests and is maintained and updated by the Office for Women.

The Premier's Women's Directory identifies women with a broad range of expertise and interests for nomination to boards and committees. Women who are seeking appointment to a board or committee are encouraged to register for the Directory.

Initially established to improve the gender balance on State Government boards and committees in South Australia, the database is available to search for anyone seeking to recruit more women for their board or committee. The Directory is accessed by a password which can be obtained from the Office for Women.

How are women on the Premier's Women's Directory vetted?

The application process for the Premier's Women's Directory is designed to ensure ease of application for the candidate while maintaining the highest level of quality and information about the candidates in the directory.

Applicants become members of the Directory by entering their information online. Applicants details will not be made live on the Directory until they have been reviewed by the Office for Women.  If necessary the applicant may be contacted to provide additional information. Once approved, members details are available on the Directory immediately. Once included in the directory, members can edit or add to their entry online at any time.

How can I ensure my search includes only women with a high level of board experience?

You can limit your searches to women who have high level board experience by ticking Limit to people with high level board experience. This option is available in the Simple search and Advanced search.

The women included in the Directory under this field have been through an evaluation process to ensure that they have high level skills, expertise and experience. These women have had extensive board experience and may have chairing experience.

Women's contact details are not available online for privacy reasons. Contact the Office for Women should you require contact details of candidates.

The Last updated date is listed at the bottom of each woman's cv.

While the Office for Women makes every effort to ensure profiles are as up-to-date as possible, some profiles may not be current as it is the responsibility of each member to update their own profile.

You can log on to the database and update your profile at any time. Any amendments made will be approved by the Office for Women and then made live on the website.

The Office for Women can provide tailored searches to meet the requested specific needs of boards. Notice of a week or more will ensure a quality comprehensive search.

You can obtain contact information from the Office for Women and contact the candidate directly to clarify any points on her profile.

  1. Applicants become members of the Directory by entering their information online. Applicants details will not be made live on the Directory until they have been reviewed by the Office for Women.  If necessary the applicant may be contacted to provide additional information.
  2. Once approved, members details are available on the Directory immediately. Once included in the directory, members can edit or add to their entry online at any time.
  3. Members of the Directory are also invited to join the South Australian Premier's Women's Directory LinkedIn Group. This group provides an avenue for members to network and share information about getting on boards and women in leadership.
  4. As a member of the Directory you will also receive emails from the Office for Women with information on board vacancies and events related to board membership and leadership in general.
  5. Once your profile is made active you may be contacted at any time to consider a board appointment. It is important to note that inclusion on the Directory does not mean that you will automatically be offered appointment to a position, nor does it commit you to accepting an appointment if it is offered to you.
  6. The Office for Women receives requests to undertakea search of the Directory according to specific board criteria. Or if they are authorised, an organisation might login to the website and perform the online search themselves. Search criteria may include specificskills, qualifications, industry and sector experience and areas ofinterest.  We then provide details of potential candidates for their consideration.
  7. To protect your privacy, contact details are not included on the website. Organisations wishing to contact members of the Directory for potential board or committee appointments must go through the Office for Women.
  8. Each board and committee is differentand has its own process for filling board vacancies.  However, in eachcase the requesting agency or organisation will liaise with you directly todetermine your interest in the position and to take you through the nextsteps.

To enable quick and targeted searches for suitable candidates, there are many ways to search the Premier's Women's Directory. Simple search

On the Simple Search page  you can search by one or a combination of the following criteria:

  • First Name
  • Last Name
  • Keyword: the keyword search option will search for a word or a combination of words from all of the information in the candidate profiles.
  • High level experience: These women have had extensive past board experience and some may have chairing experience.
  • Chair experience: By ticking this box, a search will return only women who have chair experience.
  • Profile: This search option may be helpful when a prospective board is seeking a particular set of skills or qualifications.

Advanced search

In addition to the above options, on the Advanced Search page you can search by up to three keywords or four profiles at a time.  You can also tick the box to Show description in the search results enabling you to see each members cv in the search results.

You can now apply to be a member of the Directory online here.

To complete your profile you will be asked to provide the following information:

  • your full name (mandatory)
  • contact information (mandatory)
  • a short bio (mandatory)
  • expertise areas (mandatory)
  • preferred areas of interest for board and committee appointments (mandatory)
  • qualifications
  • professional development
  • board and committee experience
  • current employment

You MUST complete the mandatory fields in order to be accepted onto the Directory.

It is important to note that inclusion on the Directory does not mean that you will be automatically offered appointment to a position, nor does it commit you to accepting an appointment if it is offered to you.

Applying for access to the Directory

The Directory is password protected to ensure that integrity and confidentiality is maintained and that only authorised persons are able to conduct searches.

Government, not for profit and private sector personnel who need to identify candidates for appointment to boards and committees can apply for a username and password by emailing a request for password form   (DOC 123.0 KB) to officeforwomen@dcsi.sa.gov.au

The Privacy Act (Cth) 1988 stipulates that personal information on databases can only be released for the purpose for which it was collected.

Issuing passwords

Passwords are issued to those with the authority to make appointments to Government, private and not-for-profit boards and committees.  You will be contacted by the Office for Women upon receipt of the completed request for password form with your username and password. Once a password is provided it should not be passed on to any other person or group.

The Office for Women will not provide passwords to applicants who cannot demonstrate that they are seeking potential candidates for their board or committee.

Logging onto the Directory

You will be provided with a username and password to access the Directory.  Your username will be your email address.  You can change your password at any time using the function in the database once logged on.

Search criteria

Searches can either be conducted with only one or two criteria through the Simple Search page or using a variety of criteria on the Advanced Search page.

  • Name search You can search by any combination of first and or last name.
  • High level board experience This limits your search to women who have had extensive past board experience, including chairing experience.
  • Chair experience By ticking this box, a search will return only women who have chair experience.
  • Profile areas This search option may be helpful when a prospective board is seeking a particular set of skills or qualifications.  The drop down box lists areas and industries of key expertise, for example Finance, Defence, Construction, Policy.
  • Keyword search The keyword search option will search for a word or a combination of words from all of the information in the candidate profiles.

Member profiles

The member profiles provide a summary of each woman's experience, a list of their current and previous board/committee experience and their area of interest.  Information is provided on each candidate under the following categories:

  • Contact details
  • Biography
  • Qualifications
  • Expertise Areas (areas of high level skills and knowledge e.g. health, legal, management)
  • Interest Areas (up to 10 areas of interest)
  • Special Interest (e.g. Chair experience)
  • Board and Committee Experience
  • Professional Development
  • Employment History

Please note, to protect the privacy of its members, contact information is not shown on the Directory.

Contacting women for nomination

The personal contact details of women are not provided in the Directory. The Office for Women must be contacted to obtain these details. This ensures the privacy of the women registered on the Directory.  It also assists the Office to monitor potential nominations of women and to track statistical information on the success of the overall strategy.

Requesting a customised search

The Office for Women can undertake a search on your behalf. These searches are tailored to meet the needs of specific boards and information on the skills and experience required for the board vacancy assists the Office for Women find potential candidates.

The Office prefers at least one week's notice. Searches can be achieved with less notice, however the results may not be as comprehensive.
