Volunteers at Women's Information Service (WIS) are highly valued and make a difference to the lives of many women in South Australia. The WIS volunteer program offers comprehensive training, mentoring and support to make sure your volunteering experience is the best it can be.
Our volunteers work with women from all different walks of life, and currently WIS has two areas of volunteering.
1. WIS shopfront and community engagement
WIS offers volunteers the opportunity to work as a valued member of the team in our Shopfront. This involves providing information and referrals to women who call our phone line or visit our city location in person. There are also opportunities to volunteer at community events on WIS stalls and to provide talks about WIS to student groups.
We will provide you with a comprehensive 2 week training program, a minimum of 3 mentored shifts and a supportive work environment in a women-centred service.

2. Family court support
WIS Family Court Support volunteers attend court with women who don’t have friends or family to provide support. Many of the cases involve a history of domestic violence and the court process can be daunting and difficult to navigate. WIS volunteers provide information about the court and its processes, sit with the woman before and during the hearing and provide a listening ear.
We will provide you with a comprehensive 2 week training program, a minimum of 2 ‘Buddy’ shifts and a supportive work environment in a women-centred program.
